Computer Science Department - degrees and certificates

Students with a degree in computer science can look forward to a high paying career with strong employment opportunities. The industry is rapidly growing and changing creating new positions that are challenging and dynamic.

Students who have earned an A.S. degree in computer science are prepared for entry-level employment as a computer programmer, programmer's aide or software support technician.

Certificate programs generally provide students with the technical skills required to perform their required duties. However, they do not provide students with the broad base knowledge (soft skills) that employers also desire. The A.S. in computer science degree is designed to provide students with both the technical and soft skills needed in a programming and software support area. By carefully selecting the elective courses, students may specialize in an area of their choosing. For those students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university, many of the courses are transferable. Students should work closely with a counselor on transfer requirements.
