10A Budget Committee Meets 10 a.m.–12 p.m. in the BFL Community Conference Room
12P FA09-328: Friday Fieldtrip -- Wax Museum A collection of new work by DVC faculty Fran Brown and Joy Broom features mixed media artwork that uses encaustic, or hot wax painting, which involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface. Metal tools and special brushes can be used to shape the paint before it cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax once it has cooled onto the surface. Each artist approaches the application of encaustic painting differently. Fran Brown's work has a very painterly abstract quality while Joy Broom's work incorporates repurposed and found objects. Mi Vida Loca (1993; 92 min.; Alison Anders) The story of young Mexican-American women in Los Angeles and the struggles they have in a life of gangs, drugs, and personal betrayal. Mousie and Sad Girl are best friends from childhood, but when Sad Girl sleeps with Mousie’s boyfriend and becomes pregnant, their friendship is ruptured.
