The data for expressing, assessing, and evaluating instructional student learning outcomes is managed in databases that are maintained on the DVC computer system. The databases are (1) the “web curriculum system” (WCS), which contains the approved list of current courses offered at the college, (2) “eSLOs”, which contains records for each individual outcome for each instructional program and for each SLO-able course, and (3) an electronic list of responsible departments and divisions per course and program. Queries are made on these databases to (1) inform the public about what are the expected outcomes for DVC’s courses and programs, and to (2) inform divisions and departments about the status of assessment so that they can manage the process effectively.
Both databases live on the “employee” side of the DVC computer network, which is not accessible by the public. These databases are password-protected, and they are "owned" by the Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate SLO Committee, and provided and maintained by IT and by Research. The list of responsible parties is maintained by the Instruction Office. Queries are made in order to extract data for use in printed publications, such as the DVC catalog. In a similar way, data are extracted to web-based documents that get published on the public DVC website.
The publically-available SLO data include (1) the lists of instructional programs and courses and (2) the student learning outcomes for each. They are available on the DVC website and in various publications, including the program SLOs in the catalog, starting with the 09/10 addendum.
The data available to employees include (1) course outcomes, (2) assessment methods, rubrics, and result summaries, and (3) action plan summaries. The data available to departments and divisions includes assessment status reports that inform divisions and departments about the assessment cycle status for the courses and instructional programs for which they have responsibility.
The management reports are available in Excel XLS file format. Click here to access the status reports for divisions, departments, and disciplines.
